The Carbide 3D Heavy-Duty Z/X Axis Upgrade for Shapeoko 3, also known as HDZ, is a meticulously engineered enhancement designed to replace the existing X/Z carriage on the Shapeoko 3. This premium upgrade introduces additional rigidity and maintains the same Z clearance, ensuring no loss of working space. The HDZ is built around a robust ball screw and linear rails system, facilitating smooth movement of the Z-axis, even when accommodating heavier spindles.
The upgrade features a substantial 150mm of Z-travel and a 15mm machined aluminum back plate, making it ideal for use with heavy-duty 2.2kw spindles, which are supported by a new 80mm mount. The inclusion of inductive proximity switches and mounts for the X, Y, and Z axes enhances the functionality and precision of the machine. The HDZ is fully compatible with Carbide 3D and Carbide Motion software, ensuring seamless integration and support.
The kit is pre-assembled to a large extent, requiring minimal effort to install. The spindle mount and limit switches from the original setup are the only components needed to complete the assembly. The necessary GRBL adjustments are managed through Carbide Motion software.
Please note that this upgrade is only compatible with machines that have the Carbide Motion PCB version 2.4d or higher. Machines newer than February 2017 are likely to be compatible. If the compatibility of the machine is uncertain, assistance is available to determine the suitability of the upgrade. Additionally, for those with an enclosure around their machine, a minimum clearance of 270mm from the top of the X rail is required to accommodate the HDZ.

This kit comes pre-assembled, 95% ready to fit. The only hardware that will come from your existing setup is the spindle mount and limit switches. GRBL changes are handled by Carbide Motion.

If you are not satisfied for whatever reason with a Product you bought on the Site, it is possible to return it for refund within 30 days from the date you received it unless otherwise indicated in the Product listing. You must first advise the Vendor associated with your order in your account to obtain a return authorization (‘’RA’’) number before returning a Product. (‘’RA’’) numbers are valid for 30 days, within which time the returned Products should be received by the Vendor. No returns will be accepted without having previously obtained an (‘’RA’’) number. The Product must then be returned in its original packaging (in perfect condition for resale) with its receipt and your (‘’RA’’) number. Reimbursement will be denied for any Products which do not conform to the above mentioned conditions.
Build-it-yourself Robot Parts are not refundable once assembled. Robots & Kits requiring assembly or soldering are also not refundable once assembled, soldered or modified in any way. All sales of robotic software and apps are final and cannot be refunded or exchanged. Returns are not accepted on special orders and clearance items except when they are found defective, in which case the Product may be repaired or replaced at the Vendor’s discretion. 20% Restocking fees may apply if you are returning a large quantity of the same Product that was ordered specifically for you from the manufacturer.
Please note that all items will be reimbursed within 7 to 14 days of receiving the Product (shipping fees excluded). You must also cover the cost of returning the Product. Shipping fees will only be refunded if the return is a result of a shipping error on our part. Cleaning fees of USD 100 may also be charged if a domestic robot is returned and has not been properly cleaned.
